Album Review: Cry Monster Cry - Rhythm of Dawn
Review by Una Begley

One of the more exciting releases of 2015 is Cry Monster Cry’s debut album “Rhythm of Dawn” which will be released on March 6th, with a Tower Records instore show set for March 7th, and an album launch in Whelans on March 14th, with support from Biggles Flys Again.

Cry Monster Cry are brothers Richie and Jamie Martin, who follow up their 2012 “The Fallen EP” with a really beautiful album. While their music always contrasted their sweet vocal harmonies with darker lyrics, this album also showcases a depth of musical complexity that was not as evident on their previous release.

It is hard to choose a highlight on an album that aims to bring the listener on a cylical journey, where the songs have more meaning when considered as part of the whole. That said, “Starling”, current single “Postcards” and “The Distance” are standout tracks, in addition to old favourite “On Tangled Shores” which had featured also on their EP.

“Rhythm of Dawn” - a stunning folk album from the talented Cry Monster Cry, very much worth waiting for. 9/10
